Our Top 5 Favorite Friendships

Join us in taking a look at some of our favorite iconic duos, BFF’s, and best buds.

7 October 2022

Best friends – they’re with us through life’s ups and downs. They keep us laughing late into the night and lend us a shoulder to cry on when trouble strikes. At Mikros we’ve been working with iconic duos for decades. From Asterix and Obelix to SpongeBob and Patrick, we’re taking a look at some of our favorite best buds.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

SpongeBob + Patrick are best friends forever

These two could be considered the most popular duo in recent history. Since 1999 SpongeBob and Patrick have been pestering Squidward, causing chaos in Bikini Bottom, and jellyfishing into the sunset. In 2021 SpongeBob and Patrick brought their friendship origin-story to the big screen in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. While at Kamp Koral, a 10-year-old, teary-eyed and homesick Patrick is comforted by his new friend SpongeBob.

Following the success of the film, Paramount+ and Mikros Animation collaborated on a new chapter in the SpongeBob franchise, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, which dives deeper into young SpongeBob and Patrick’s sea-nanigans at summer camp.

Rugrats

The Rugrats are squad goals

Tommy, Chuckie, Phil & Lil…nothing can break the bond of this group, except, maybe one of Angelica’s schemes. This classic group was originally introduced to audiences in 1991 on Nickelodeon and has proven to be a heartwarming portrayal of friendship, imagination, and childhood ever since. In 2021 Mirkos Animation and Paramount+ rebooted the classic franchise with the series’ original creators to bring the playmates to a whole new audience.

The core four of the group are the brave baby Tommy Pickles, the anxious but adorable Chuckie Finster and the bug and mud loving twins, Phil and Lil Deville. Of course, The Rugrats friendship circle is larger than that if we include Tommy’s brother Dill, his cousin Angelica, and his next door neighbor Susie Carmichael. Together they go on backyard adventures and use their imagination, showing the world that “a baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do!”

Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion

Asterix + Obelix are a timeless duo

These Gaulish pals have been inseparable for over 60 years! Asterix and Obelix are the original BFF’s from the French comic book classic, Asterix. In 2014 Mikros Animation and M6 Studio brought these classic characters to new audiences in Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods and then again in 2018 in Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion. The two are the perfect duo, using Asterix’s brains and Obelix’s brawn to always find a way to beat those pesky Romans.

Paw Patrol: The Movie

Skye + Chase to the rescue

Brave and ready for action, this fearless duo is who you want to come to your rescue. Skye and Chase are a part of the Paw Patrol, a group of search and rescue pups led by a young boy named Ryder. Together they go on missions, crack cases, and protect the city. Chase is a German Shepard police dog who is a natural leader and can sniff out any mystery. Skye is a cockapoo who takes to the sky in her helicopter to survey emergencies from above. Together, Skye and Chase make an adorable duo. In Paw Patrol: The Movie we see their friendship in action when Skye comforts and rescues Chase in a time of need.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

George + Harold stir up trouble

These snickering pals sure know how to cause trouble. Mikros Animation and Dreamworks ripped this duo straight from the pages of the beloved children’s book series, Captain Underpants, to the big screen in 2017. In both the book series and the film, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, George Beard and Harold Hutchins are an inseparable pair of fourth graders who spend their days creating comic books and plotting pranks.

One of their favorite past times is antagonizing their hot headed principal, Mr. Krupp. In fact, they accidentally hypnotize him into believing that he is Captain Underpants, a dimwitted superhero whose costume consists of underwear and a cape! The film and the books center around wacky adventures with Captain Underpants, but stay grounded around the friendship between class clowns, George and Harold.
