Our Mikros Animation Bangalore studio is going under the Mikroscope! We asked our creative talent 8 questions so you that you can get to know them, their experience in VFX, and their successes. At the end, they in turn pass the baton to one of their colleagues to go under the Mikroscope.
Today we spotlight Selvan T, Animation Lead at Mikros Animation, who talks about his career highlights, favourite characters, inspirations, superpowers, and an insight into his role at Mikros Animation.
What is the best part of your job?
Being able to help, support and mentor a highly creative and passionate team and brainstorming ideas with them, before starting a sequence/show. Just love the preparation days!
What was the first project you worked on when you joined Mikros Animation?
My first show was “Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks“. Loved the music in that show!
Share your student and professional background to get to your position at Mikros Animation!
After completing my graduation in Physics, I did a course on Animation from Arena Animation Academy (Chennai). Soon after that I joined Paprikaas as a Junior Animator, 4 years later I joined Xentrix and completed 2 years there. Then I joined Technicolor, and I have been here for the last 8 years.
Who or what inspires you?
Any book, short film or movie inspired me. And people who are creatively out of the box really inspire me.
If you had to be a character in Mikros Animation’s films and series, who would you be?
I relate most to Dave from “Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks“, since he is mostly outsmarted by the chipmunks – I have 2 kids who are as naughty as the chipmunks!
Your biggest achievement so far?
With my episodic background, working on two amazing movies back-to-back, is a pretty good achievement and THE BIGGEST is yet to come!
What would be your superpower?
I am like Batman (of course not the rich part) – passionate, planned and prepared for any kind of encounter. Listening and being open to new ideas!
And of course, time travelling.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Read more books, watch more movies and never forget- “The simplest things in life are the most extraordinary”.
