Muriel Kodjo takes the stage, giving you the lowdown on her role as a TD Pipeline at Mikros Animation in Montreal:

  • What’s the best part of your job?

The opportunity to learn every day! Working with multiple departments gives me the feeling of being in a constant learning position. It’s fascinating to see how other departments operate, the connections between them, and how together we contribute to creating the best cinematic work possible.

  • What was the first project you worked on when you joined Mikros Animation?

When I first joined Mikros Animation, I became part of the Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie team as an Animation TD. As it was my initial foray into the industry, I had the chance to get acquainted with what an animation pipeline entails. I enjoyed my team and appreciated everyone who took the time to provide me with the tools needed to excel at my job. At Mikros, I’ve met many wonderful people who inspire me with their art and encourage me to aspire for more.

  • Share your educational and professional journey leading to your position at Mikros Animation!

After completing my Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, I knew I wanted to be part of an industry that impassioned me. That’s why I turned to animation films, leading me to discover Mikros Animation. I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the Paw Patrol 2 team and later the Thelma The Unicorn team.

  • What inspires you?

Reading! Writing is a beautiful form of art for me. Words have the power to describe the invisible. Readers can perceive the world as we’ve written it or even in their own way. Characters, dialogues, settings—everything aligns to make a coherent and intriguing story possible. It’s wonderful to me. Every time I finish a book, I am inspired to create in turn! Being immersed in a written universe is an indescribable feeling. Books, like films, have the power to convey incredible messages. That’s why books are a source of inspiration for me.

  • If you were to be a character from Mikros Animation films and series, who would you be?

Pitt in the movie Sahara is one of my favorite supporting characters. In Sahara, Pitt is Ajar’s confidant, taking the time to advise and warn him, even if Ajar doesn’t always heed his comments. Like him, I believe I’m here to support those around me in my personal life and the various departments in my professional life.

  • Your greatest achievement so far?

My greatest professional achievement is joining Mikros and working on my first animated film! It’s a dream come true for me: contributing to the creation of a film.

  • What would be your superpower?

I would like to be an antiseptic to ward off microbes.

  • What advice would you give to your younger self?

Things don’t need to be perfect. You just need to start, be comfortable making mistakes, and progress. Stop seeking perfection and try what you want to do. Take the time to do things you enjoy.
